Amity Fire & Rescue Proudly Protects The Townships Of Amity, And The Southern Half Of Douglass, Located In Historic And Beautiful Berks County, Pennsylvania. Both Townships Are Mostly Rural With Several Medium Density Developments, A Combined Area Of Approximately 25 Square Miles And Population Of About 14,000. Two Major Highways Run Through Our Area, PA State Rt. 422, A Four Lane High Volume Artery And PA State Rt. 662. Calls Presently Average 400+ Per Year.

 
Engine 49 goes to Douglass Township for RIT on a Working Structure Fire

This evening Engine 49 was dispatched to Douglass Township, Poplar Lane, to stand by as the RIT Team on a working Structure Fire. The crew of Engine 49 along with Chief 49 stood by as RIT for about 20 minutes until Rescue 5 was on scene to take over RIT operations and then the engine crew and Chief 49 went into service and assisted with extinguishing the hot spots and assisted with over haul and salvage. The Beast is Back in Town

After weeks of being at the paint shop becoming "Amity Yellow", the Rescue is finally finished and back in the township. Structure Fire on Lehmann Drive

At 12:15 Amity Fire Company (Company 49), Monarch Fire Company (Company 6), Mt. Penn Fire Company ( Company 1), and Oley Fire Company (Company 5) were dispatched to Lehmann Drive, Amity Township, for a possible chimney fire, basement filled with smoke. Crews arrived on location and entered the residence and entered the basement to find a small fire above the heating duct below the fireplace. Crews extinguished the fire and ventilated the basement. Change Your Clock; Change Your Batteries

Day light savings time is now upon us, and that means this would be a great time to clean and change the batteries in your smoke detectors.  It's important that everyone have safety in mind and keeping your smoke detectors clean and operational are key.  If you have children, then think about getting them involved as well; ask them to help you and even practice a fire drill to make sure that everyone knows what to do and where to go in case of emergency.
