RESULT OF SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING FROM JULY 17th, 2008
Fire Department personnel and Township Supervisors met in a special public meeting to discuss present and future issues regarding the fire department. The meeting was moderated by Solicitor Stephen Price. After a lengthy discussion between the Fire Department and Township Supervisors (which addressed such topics as why the meeting was called, why the situation got to where it was, and what the Township could do to promote better communications and cooperation) Matt Bakes agreed to stay on as Chief of the Barto Fire Company. Chief Bakes' main reason for staying was the overwhelming response received from the residents of the Township. "So many people came up to me and said, I trust you with my life, you can't leave..." said Chief Bakes. The Fire Department again presented our written communications from 2004 and 2005 regarding the future growth of the Township, what our needs were (and still are), and the explanations of those needs. We are looking forward to a renewed, open line of communications and cooperation with the Township as a result of this meeting.
Community Information regarding Request for Land
Back in 2004, the Vol. Barto Fire Company actively began planning for the future fire protection needs of Washington Township. Through letters to the Supervisors and Township Meetings, the Barto Fire Company has been proactive in persuing changes that we believe are needed for the present and future fire protection of this Township. One of our main goals as far back as 2004 was identifying and securing land for the purpose of building a new fire station. We believe this to be imperative, because of the increased development in our Township, and the fact that there will soon be no suitable land available to acquire for the possibility of a larger fire station. We feel that before the second phases of many of these developments start, it is imperative that we identify and acquire currently undeveloped land in order to ensure for the future fire protection of the Township.
The Barto Fire Company has put together a Community Information sheet, which can be accessed by clicking on this link. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this document, which can be downloaded for free at www.adobe.com. Click on the "Get Adobe Reader" icon.
