9/11 - NEVER FORGET Thursday, September 11th - It was 7 years ago when the unimaginable happened. On that date, 343 FDNY Firefighters lost their lives saving lives. Tonight, the West Ridge and West Lake Fire Departments came together to celebrate the bravery and honor all the victims who died on that date. Truck 489 (West Lake) along with Tower 10 setup a memorial at West 12th and Peninsula. If you were in the area, you would have noticed that both ladders were raised into the air. The 2 ladders were meant to represent the 2 World Trade Center towers that collapsed that day. At the top of each ladder was an American Flag. One of the American Flags was a flag that had flown in Iraq. For the next 4 1/2 hours, several people stopped in to see the fire apparatus and to talk to the Firefighters. At one point, a gentleman and his son stopped by. The Firefighters found out that his brother was a FDNY Firefighter who perished on 9/11. Talking to him brought chills to the Firefighters in attendance. When the sun went over the tree line, the emergency lights on both trucks along with Engine 483 and Rescue 485 were all turned on at once. This is a memorial that has happened for the past few years and will continue to take place for several years to come.

Tower 10 (crew of 6) arrived on location and positioned on the Alpha/Bravo corner. The crew assisted with ventilation and manpower. The fire appeared to start in a pile of industrial shop rags.
