Our annual Safe Kids Day kicked off at it's new location this year at Calvary Bible Fellowship Church in Lower Heidelberg Township. Kids and parents that attended were treated to a wide variety of safety materials and displays along with the opportunity to win door prizes and receive free bicycle helmets. On display were helicopters from three flight services; PennStar, MedEvac and SkyFlight Care were on hand to see and local fire companies attended to showcase their equipment. Demonstrations by West Reading Police (K9 and Motorcycle demos), the Reading Police Bomb Squad, and a vehicle rescue presented by Western Berks EMS and Wernersville Fire were just a few of the various things for everyone to see. Eddie the Eagle, Slapshot, Soupy the Ambulance and Patches the Firetruck were roaming the grounds greeting everyone. Western Berks Ambulance would like to thank everyone for attending and thank our hosts, Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, for opening their facilities for this very worthwhile event. You can see pictures of the event in our 'Round the Town section. |

Passing of a Friend and Colleague |

Our condolences go out to the family, friends and coworkers of Cheryl Breneiser. Cheryl was employed as a Paramedic by the Reading Fire Department and Western Berks Ambulance. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly the evening of April 12th and will be sadly missed. Cheryl was laid to rest on April 18th, 2007 with an impressive service fitting to her legacy. Friends, co-workers and former colleagues of Cheryl attended to pay their tribute to someone that touched us all. A commanding presence, a testament to Cheryl's presence in a room, was represented by MedEvac, PennStar and Sky Care helicopters in an impressive fly over during the graveside services. Western Berks Ambulance would like to thank the Reading Fire Department for allowing us to help honor Cheryl and especially Keith (Sarge) Eschelman for working with us so well. Also a big thank you to Muhlenberg EMS, Pottsville EMS and First Aid & Safety for their assistance throughout the day.
